About

The band members call themselves “Far Eastern, evergreen romantics.” Mumiy Troll was founded in Vladivostok (Russia’s biggest Pacific port) by frontman Ilya Lagutenko.

Since then, these musicians have played gigs worldwide: from Siberia to the Baltics, Mongolia to Greenland — and from Shanghai clubs to Saint Petersburg’s Palace Square. Despite international renown, they remain fresh and very keen to experiment — further still from home.

A genuine disregard for canonical rock quickly made them the coolest, biggest band in Russia. A chain of Number One singles, media awards, and sold-out arena tours followed.

Starting with the release of their debut and DIY album in 1997, Mumiy Troll rapidly became one of Russia’s most prominent bands; online they have managed more than 100 million downloads. “MT” were the first group to appear on MTV Russia, to represent Russia at Eurovision, and win every domestic award possible. All the same, the ensemble remains committed to the DIY philosophy of their roots.
